ASUS Releases Android Lollipop For The ZenFone 4, 5, and 6

Today ASUS is rolling out an update to Android Lollipop for their first generation ZenFones. The update covers most of the original ZenFone devices offered by ASUS.
While the Qualcomm based ZenFone 5 A500KL has been running Lollipop since April, this update brings the Intel powered A500CG and A501CG versions up to date as well. The ZenFone 4 A400CG is also receiving its Lollipop update. The updates for all these devices are being sent out over the air, but users can download them directly from ASUS to flash themselves if they don't want to wait.
In addition to the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 5, the ZenFone 6 A600CG and A601CG are also being updated to Lollipop. The firmware updates for these two phones are not yet being sent out as OTA updates, but the files are already available to download from ASUS.
The fact that ASUS is updating their original ZenFones to Lollipop sends a good message to potential ZenFone 2 buyers who were worried about ASUS's commitment to keeping their devices updated. Hopefully ASUS can continue to keep their older devices updated as newer generations of ZenFones are introduced.

Current L adoption is around 10% and we have M haunting behind.They really need a new model to tackle this partial OS problem or it would be their downfall if something new were to come up.

Absolutely agree. Let's be honest, most OEMs aren't going to stop putting their own skin on top of stock Android. Google should offer a good/better theming engine for the OEMs. AOSP does have RRO from Sony, but I don't think most OEMs will start using this unless Google forces them to.Impulses - Wednesday, June 3, 2015 - link
Seems to me many OEM are just slow even without excessive skinning, Moto pushes most of their features as standalone apps and the OG Moto X has yet to get Lolipop either...Meanwhile something way more loaded with custom code like the One m7 already received L.
I don't think it really matters in the long run, average non enthusiast couldn't care less and at some point development cycles will slow down regardless.

Asus won't release something if they are not 99.9% sure that its stable. Reality is that custom rom and vanilla Android users are all ''beta'' testers for OEMs. This makes sense and especially that the Zenfone 2 is the only phone with x86_64 or Intel/AMD* 64 bit Kernel architecture to fully support its 4Gb RAM feature. Intel Compiler is much more complex since the CPU has to ''emulate'' every single arm code in Android, this is also greatly reducing its performance. Asus stated that they are working not only on 5.1, but also a completely x86_64 64 bit system (OS+Kernel).
