Why? Those are exactly the price range of the original Zenfone, and they've been very successful with them.This is basically what a mid-range 2015 phone is going to look like, and they generally go for $200-$250 (outright, off contract).

Intel is finally getting serious about Mobile it seems, which would be great more competition will mean better SoCs for us.Also,if those are off contract prices I may seriously consider the Zenphone Zoom. I'll be waiting for a few reviews though, Asus products have been hit or miss for me in the past.
