Samsung Updates the Firmware of SSD 830 Series, Fixes BSOD Issue

This seems to be a month of SSD firmware updates. Less than two weeks ago, Crucial released a firmware update to fix the issue that caused BSODs after 5184 hours of operation. Today, OCZ released a firmware update for Octane that improved its random write performance. Samsung also joins the chorus and they have released a firmware update, or actually two updates, for their SSD 830 Series
The first update, named as CXM02B1Q, was actually released two weeks ago. Its release went mostly unnoticed due to CES, hence we never saw it until today. The release notes state that the update fixes a BSOD or hang issue when waking the computer up from hibernation mode. The 830 Series has generally been said to be one of the most reliable SATA 6Gb/s SSDs, and while this issue doesn't seem to be widespread, it's still an issue that affected some users. Samsung also claims that the update fixes partition issues with some enclosures and laptops.
The second update, CXM03B1Q, was released last Thursday and it's identical to the earlier update, but with improved compatibility and stability of the update tool. You can download the latest firmware for the Samsung 830, and as usual we recommend backing up critical data before flashing.

CD ISO doesn't work on a Macbook Pro Early 2011.Had to bootcamp into Windows 7, install the Samsung Magician software and update the firmware in Windows.

Apple uses in-house firmware, not the stock Samsung one. They can update it separately via Software Update or include it in a bigger update.Penti - Friday, January 27, 2012 - link
Apple do allow you to install retail/third party drives though. So Samsung could still serve those users. Probably some that run it as external drives too. Regardless if it's USB 3, Firewire 800, eSATA or Thunderbolt drives do end up with mac users (USB3 is available from Lacie when it comes to adapters and drivers, eSATA from little of everybody, more TB is coming) so obviously some SSDs will end up being used with the macs eventually. Lacie settled with an Intel 320 with their TB SSD-drive though. Still a need, not everybody keeps a Windows machine around or wants to pirate Windows. Nobody buys the retail license needed to run Windows in bootcamp legally. Nobody. Not that anybody cares about pirating software, laws are usually more relaxed then other digital content, it's just an unnecessary process if you do it just to update a firmware.Penti - Friday, January 27, 2012 - link

You need to burn the ISO with Magician, that's why. It's stupid, I know.
