New Server Manager Shown Off for Windows Server 8

Ryan and I are on the floor at Microsoft BUILD for day two, where Windows Server 8 is the subject. There's still more for the keynote, but Microsoft briefly showed off the new server manager. Unsurprisingly, there's lots of Metro UI theming here, and server manager gets the top-bar bread crumb navigation and new organization. Subjectively this looks a lot like the new task manager we showed earlier.
Microsoft used server manager in a simple demo to stick 16 SAS drives in JBOD, and then shared that JBOD using SMB 2.2 and generated a bunch of network traffic. No doubt we'll see a lot more of WIndows Server 8 today at BUILD.

Why do they need to even make the server UI like Windows 8??? If you are an admin, it should be expected we know our butt from our elbows when it comes to computing. We don't deserve to be treated like dolts as well.alent1234 - Wednesday, September 14, 2011 - link

I don't think it reduces what you need to know as an admin, but if a gui helps with functionality and getting things done faster, then I'm all for it. (Speaking from someone that was sick of using NT4 and 2000)Hilderbeard - Wednesday, September 14, 2011 - link
My take on it is to make the UI function no matter what you're interacting with or from. Much easier to admin your W8 server from your Windows phone if the UI on both are compatible. Haven't you tried admining a Windows server through some sort of rdp app on an iGadget or other smart phone tablet thingy and found you can't click and drag or some such?Jkm3141 - Thursday, September 15, 2011 - link
While I am all about a well designed server interface as it allows quicker and easier day to day management, I hope microsoft has not forgotten about the command line. I was thrilled when they expanded this in Vista/7. The interfaces provided by WMI and ADSI are powerful, I hope they have expanded this with Windows 8/Server 8.John
