SuperTalent Introduces USB 3.0 Virtual PC Flash Drives

SuperTalent are so confident in their speeds that they have teamed up with Ceedo, to provide Ceedo Personal at a reduced cost. The Ceedo Personal application allows the user to install any Windows applications onto the portable drive, and these applications can then be used on any compatible Windows PC, saving all the unique settings that user is accostomed to. We tried out the software on a couple of systems, having no issues on one, and a few quirks on the other. The quirky system needed a fiddle with security settings and some of the browser plug–ins disabled before the Ceedo Programs list would open. However, download tabs were greyed out, preventing us from installing anything from Ceedo’s application list. The fix is probably a simple one, but not something we’ve stumbled across to date. Just a heads up to check out the free 45 day trial here for compatibility and ease of use before you buy.

Unfortunately, these thumb drives aren't cheap. Step over to the 32GB and 64 GB models and you're getting close to ADATA N004 64GB and 128GB USB 3.0 SSD prices, sans the cost of Ceedo. Obviously the form factor comes into play for easier portability, but whether or not that's worth a $70 hike in price at 64GB capacity is another matter. There's also more direct competition from the likes of Kingston with their DataTraveller Ultimate series of flash drives (JMF controller based), however, we're not sure what controller SuperTalent are using at present so don't know how the two will compare in a head-to-head.

I had to go digging on my own because there isn't even the barest hardware info. Even a picture would help. I could not deduce from the text what form factor it was, or what a RAM Cache drive was (Since regular form factor SSD always include flash, and I had no indication that this was a thumb-drive).I learned that this is a Thumb-style drive, and the "RAM Cache" refers to cache ram built into the thumb drive to improve performance of the thumb drive (instead of an external RAM cache for the PC).
I do not watch Youtube for news bits. Can't do it. Maybe the information is there, but I won't click on it.
I eagerly look forward to your complete review of this product, especially how it compares to PortableApps, a program I have used when attending a college without word-processing software and Firefox on some of the computers.
As for USB 3.0, I don't think the time has yet come for it. I would have to put a USB 3.0 card in the PC, and at that point I might as well just use eSATA or Firewire, which many of my PC's have. (I don't think there are any firewire thumbsticks though).
I would love to have a really fast SATA thumbstick. I could build some seriously small PC's with one, and service them very quickly as well.

Weird?Not really. If your work uses something like a proxy to monitor things such as youtube and facebook access, clicking on the link would be a Very Bad Idea. Fortunately, Anandtech generally uses little enough bandwidth to fly under the radar.

I'm not sure if the article as I'm seeing it now is vastly different somehow from the one other commenters see, but there didn't seem to be anything lacking informationally or visually. Device picture? Check. Basic functionality summary with general performance stats? Check. Link to more info? Check - YouTube or not, it still works. Enough info to Google for more if necessary? Double check.I for one like to search and research the news, not have it fed to me like I'm a veal calf. :p
