A friend of mine who works at Intel emailed me asking for my help in this. Kyron Horman, the son of an Intel employee, has gone missing. The report is vague but seems to imply that the child went missing somewhere in Multnomah County, Oregon. He is 3'8" tall, weighs 50 lbs and has brown hair/blue eyes. He was last seen wearing black cargo pants, white socks and worn black Sketcher tennis shoes with orange trim. If you have seen him or have any information with regards to his whereabouts please contact the Multnomah County Sherrif's Tip Line at 503-261-2847.
Our hearts go out to the Horman family and we hope for a safe return of their boy. Thanks in advance for your help and for reading this.
Update: More information here.

I know that I'll be watching out for him. I live quite a bit east, other side of town, but hopefully he will be found soon and this situation can be resolved ASAP!Mallorean - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

Can I pass along a recommendation?Change the title of this to something more obvious like "Missing Boy near Portland, Oregon"
Then at the bottom include some links that easily allow your members to post this story to their Facebook, Twitter, etc Social networks.
I have already posted it to my Facebook page and several friends have reposted it.

Anand,For the past six years have enjoyed your site, but tonight you just took it to a completely different level. Combining the unique position of viewership volume along with technology to hopefully obtain a positive outcome is admirable. Wish more people in your position would take ths route.
Hopefully with the use of technology and implantable tracking chips for children will eliminate any parent's worst fear.

I hope they find him.Although it is very ironic that he is wearing a CSI T-Shirt in the picture.

I hope this kid is found ASAP. My thoughts are with you guys.Lord 666, I can empathize with parent's distress when a child is lost. I was once lost for an entire night after our building caught fire and in the craziness that ensued I was pulled from my mother's arms. I was lucky a friend of the family found me outside the building and took me into their place. With no cellphones or emails back then, all they could do is put the word out and look for my parents.
But I wouldn't want to chip kids the way you suggest. If things are bad they could only get worse if hackers can get access to a child's location at all times.

The chips are allegedly causing skin cancer in lab rats and mice:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic...
I don't know if there's a rash of skin cancer being caused by these chips in pets, though a number of activists seem to think so. Wouldn't want that to happen in humans.

My heart goes out for the family. I truly hope he is found very soon. It made me proud to see a article like this on anandtech and other tech blogs. Hopefully the help of this community can help and lead to finding Kyron.numberoneoppa - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link
